|Tainan City Art Museum
Tainan City Art Museum No. 1 features a blend of old and new architecture. The main building was originally the Tainan Police Station, completed in 1931 and designed by Tainan Prefecture engineer Meisei Sakaguchi. It is an example of Eclectic Art Deco architecture, with a main structure of reinforced concrete and wings made of red brick concrete. The exterior is decorated with face bricks, contributing to the elegant style of Museum No. 1.
In 1998, this building was designated as a city historical site in Tainan and is one of the few well-preserved police station buildings in Taiwan. Museum No. 1 houses 10 exhibition rooms, workshops, a light refreshment area, storage for collections, and spaces for artifact restoration and testing.
Museum No. 2 is situated on the site of the former Public Parking Lot 11. The main building features a design inspired by the phoenix flower, a symbol of Tainan, transformed into a pure pentagon shape. It incorporates vertically stacked and offset spaces, with semi-outdoor platforms designed for relaxation and activities. The large, fragmented pentagon-shaped roof provides shade and mimics the natural effect of tree canopies, creating beautiful light and shadow effects as sunlight filters through at various angles.
Museum No. 2 includes 16 exhibition rooms, storage for collections, a cross-disciplinary performance hall, a children's art center, a creative workshop, a souvenir display area, a light refreshment area, and a scenic restaurant. The basement is an open public parking lot.
